Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ/Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) is a martial art and a combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting.

Much like Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique: applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat them.

BJJ can be trained for self-defense, sports grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts (MMA.)

Regular training in Brasilian Jiu-Jitsu develops a high level of physical fitness, increased balance, coordination and agility and a sense camaradarie with your new training partners and friends. When you challenge yourself in training…everything else seems easy, on and off the Jiu-Jitsu mat.

Judo:

Judo, meaning “Gentle Way” is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport that originated in Japan in the late 19th century.

Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the object is to either throw one’s opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one’s opponent with a grappling manoeuvre, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking the elbow or by executing a choke. Strikes and thrusts (by hands and feet) — as well as weapons defences — are a part of judo, but only in pre-arranged forms (kata) and are not allowed in judo competition or free practice (randori).

Ultimately, the philosophy and subsequent pedagogy developed for judo became the model for almost all modern Japanese martial arts that developed from “traditional” schools (koryū). Practitioners of judo are called jūdōka.
